Annamaria Russo's work manifests an intense exploration to discover a form which can best express her inner sensibility. From her first works with their emphasis on the use of simple figurative sketches to illustrate her personal poetic universe and in her later work the medium itself becomes the focus of the canvas. The rich, earthy, vibrant materials echo the figurative style and tradition of the Roman school through its different experiments with various mediums, but there is a strong movement towards more recent experimental work inspired by a primal energy. There is a strong force illuminating and giving life to the materials used by Annamaria Russo with shadows and areas of light and there are similiarities in these works to ancient archeological relics. There is an intensity in these forms which gradually evolves into more defined areas containing lines, circles, geometric forms, fragments of assorted wallpapers which bear delicate and textural decorations. A simple and rigorous rhythm, already apparent from the arrangement in triptychs and polyptychs of the textured paintings, gives rise to a narration, to a story which reveals itself to be the true force of the work. Her most recent experimentation, in order of time, involves the use of plexiglass, multi-coloured remnants of industrial objects which are arranged in a manner which constantly reveals new forms of narration. A type of story telling through which the artist reveals to us the laws of the universe and its constant continuous fecundity.
